Rachel Zinman

Rachel has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and has taught for 16. Prior to her initial yoga education Rachel trained as a professional dancer and choreographer in the USA and in Australia. Discovering yoga she originally trained in the Iyengar and Ashtanga methods and first began teaching in her role as Head of Dance at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium where she introduced yoga to the curriculum. Her teaching style continues to reflect her deep engagement with the arts – dynamic and precise with an emphasis on mindfulness. While again living in New York from 2000–2004 Rachel met Yoga Works and ISHTA yoga founder Alan Finger teaching in his Be Yoga studios for four years. There she co-created and coordinated the Be Yoga Teacher Training Program, becoming a senior facilitator and mentor. Rachel returned to Australia to teach in the Yoga Arts Teacher Training, and since 2005 has created and facilitated her own teacher trainings and workshops in the ISHTA System in Byron Bay, Sydney, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, India, Bali, Japan, New York and throughout many major cities in Europe. Rachel’s deep personal experience and investigation of meditation allows her to be both intuitive and creative in her work and she feels grateful to be able to share her passion with others.

Rachel also co-created and produced a popular Australian Yoga Video series and a Kid's Yoga Video. She is an award-winning musician for her album of chanting and devotional song, Sita Ram , and is published poet.

Joanne Langton

Joanne Langton has been a student of yoga for over 30 years. During this time she studied various styles of yoga and draws upon this wealth of experience to deepen her own practice and in her teaching. For the past 17 years while living in Byron Bay, she studied with many senior local and visiting teachers from traditions such as and Iyengar and Ashtanga. In her home town of New York City she studied with Senior Iyengar teacher Mary Dunn, at Kripalu in Massachusetts and at the Sivananda Ashram in India to name a few. She has also studied Buddhist philosophy and meditation in Asia, Australia and the United States.

Her long time passion to teach yoga was finally fulfilled two and a half years ago after completing her training with Yoga Arts in Byron Bay, as well as many other complimentary courses and intensives. The following year Rachel Zinman returned to the Byron area with ISHTA yoga and Joanne was immediately drawn to it. For Joanne the attraction is the way it integrates many elements – the detailed understanding of the physical postures, the importance of meditation and the breath, the philosophical insights and the individuation that ayurveda brings – satisfies her desire as a teacher to convey yoga’s larger benefits and meanings. Joanne participated and assisted in the Byron Bay ISHTA System Yoga Teacher Training in April 2005 and went on to partcipate and assist in the Advanced ISHTA System Apprenticeship in 2005 and 2006.

As well as teaching on the Byron Bay ISHTA System Yoga Teacher’s Trainings , she holds regular classes and courses in Byron and Mullumbimby.

She has also partcipated in the Advanced ISHTA System Apprenticeship with Rachel Zinman in 2005 and 2006

“My own teaching philosophy is that everyone should be encouraged to learn and develop yoga at a pace that individually suits him or her. By doing so I am certain they will soon find the same level of satisfaction and reward that I have. I too of course, continue to grow along with the development of my classes and it gives me great pleasure to help others share the wonderful holistic health benefits yoga brings to us.”
