Yoga for the Doshas
with rachel zinman
Tokyo, Japan April 13, 2008
In Ayurveda (the science of life) we use the word” dosha” to describe the unique mix of elements in our body. The mix of air and space make Vata dosha, the mix of water and fire make Pitta dosha and the mix of water and earth make Kapha dosha.
Each of us has a subtle mix of Vata, Pitta and Kapha in unique proportions within us and those proportions give us our physical characteristics and even govern our mental and emotional state. Ideally the mix of doshas that we receive at birth stays that way all through life, but through conditioning, stresses and life changes our doshas go out of balance .
With a simple understanding of the three Doshas we can use the Hatha yoga practices of Asana, Pranayama and Meditation to bring us back to our individual state of balance. We can discover the practice that's right for us and see that there is no ideal way to be and no ideal way to practice yoga.
This workshop includes:
*Description and qualities of each dosha
*Vinyasa flow practice based in meeting the needs of each dosha
*A meditation and pranayama practice which balances all the doshas
*Take home questionnaire to help you determine your individual constitution.
